Shannon's Story:
"I Was You..."

I’m a wife and mom of three who has always been passionate about wellness, connection, and purpose. My career as a personal trainer, health coach, and corporate health consultant reflected these values, and I was preparing to transition into family life coaching when, in September 2019, everything changed.

I suffered a head injury that left me with debilitating symptoms. Within days, I struggled to see clearly, walk without support, or process simple tasks...

Fatigue, nausea, cognitive challenges, and severe light and sound sensitivities dictated my days. Everyday activities like cooking, driving, or visiting the grocery store became impossible. Overwhelmed by PTSD and grief for the life I lost, I began treatment, including physical therapy, vision therapy, and mental health support, but progress was slow. By summer, I was told I’d reached “maximum medical improvement” and needed to “accept my new normal.”

I refused. I believed in neuroplasticity and knew the brain could heal with the right approach. Determined, I invested in my recovery, eventually discovering Cognitive FX (CFX). This program introduced me to targeted exercises that increased blood flow to my brain, reducing fatigue dramatically. Two years post-injury, I spent a transformative week at CFX. Breakthroughs in vestibular and vision function gave me hope, and I began studying the nervous system to aid my ongoing recovery.

Recovery required dedication—hours of vision, vestibular, and cognitive exercises, journaling progress, and adjusting to my body’s needs. Over months, I regained functionality, overcame post-concussion symptoms, and felt free for the first time since my injury.

However, I also realized much of my suffering could have been mitigated with better guidance early on.

This insight fueled my desire to help others. In 2023, I launched Revive Coaching to assist those navigating post-concussion syndrome (PCS). Since then I've also added applied neurology education to my professional toolbox and work with clients through a multidisciplinary approach.

My role isn’t to replace primary providers but to help clients manage symptoms, navigate systems, and pursue goals, even when told they’ve hit their limit.

Today, I’m stronger than before—not the person I was pre-injury, but someone who embraces growth and self-discovery. My journey taught me that life after injury isn’t about settling for a “new normal” but striving for “better than before.”
